Charming historic farmhouse in Monopoli (BA) in the Macchia di Monte area

Important historic farmhouse from the end of the 18th century, located in a hilly and dominant position with sea view, in the countryside between Monopoli and Fasano, surrounded by centuries-old olive trees.
All the architectural heritage of the large property has been meticulously preserved, with original features that tell stories in every corner of the structure while the imposing and lush Italian gardens, closed by the very high fortified walls, create within the property immense green oases, with large farmyards of chianche.
The Masseria occupies a plot of approximately 3 hectares of limited construction, which constitutes an integral part of an agricultural area, which extends for a further 5 hectares, planted with olive trees, almond trees and fruit, with two large independent access avenues.
A long access avenue leads to the complex made up of several buildings with different functions, with the farm located centrally.
The latter is spread over two levels, plus various mezzanines, with a wall structure in local limestone tuff, the interior divided by a series of large rooms all with windows, formally and constructively different from each other, as they are vaulted with roofs made of tuff and plastered. (cross vaults, barrel vaults with nails, some with pointed arches), spectacular fireplaces.
The building also includes a chapel, an immense jewel which, in this case, is part of the main building and is highlighted on the façade only by the door decorated with a pediment and an inscription on the frieze.
The courtyard, which opens beyond the building perpendicular to the main one, intended for production functions, still retains its limestone paving; the main production activities took place in it and it can be considered a sort of threshing floor protected by walls.
The pigsty, some animal shelters, the oil mill, the warehouses, the storage areas, the areas for processing and drying fruit and the workers' homes overlook this courtyard.
The buildings in this block are rectangular in shape with one floor, made of squared stone or limestone tuff ashlars; internally they have rustic walls, a barrel, cross or star vaulted roof and split stone and 'chianche' flooring.
The various patios and terraces on the second floor offer an ideal place to relax and enjoy moments of absolute relaxation, with a breathtaking view of the surrounding nature and the Monopoli marina.
In wanting to attempt a periodization of the building complex, it can be said that its definitive layout is similar to the farm settlements that arose in conjunction with the introduction and spread of woody crops (vines, almond trees and olive trees) and consequent to that "rediscovery of the countryside ”, which, from the late Enlightenment onwards, marked southern culture.
The main building (former manor house) and the annexes on the ground floor, oil mill, various warehouses and other spaces connected to the activities linked to the cultivation of olive trees, can today be converted into high-level accommodation activities linked to rural tourism, which allow the placement of such structures in luxury resorts, with connected services such as spas, reception areas and prestigious meetings/events.
The Masseria was recently chosen as the location for a very famous international shooting of high-end jewelery by the well-known designers Dolce and Gabbana (July 2023).
The beaches of Monopoli and Savelletri, with the crystal clear sea, the picturesque surrounding villages, such as Polignano a Mare and San Vito, the characteristic cities such as Alberobello and Cisternino, are easily reachable in a few minutes by car.
