There are numerous leisure activities in the immediate vicinity, including a riding school, hiking trails, ski slopes, an 18-hole golf course, two small lakes, the Mendel Pass with the Kaiservilla, Lake Kaltern, a historic funicular, several jogging routes and impressive views of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This funicular, designed by the famous Swiss architect Emil Strub and one of the steepest in Europe, is still in operation following renovations.
Across the alpine pastures and green meadows of the Mendola Pass, numerous inhabitants of Kaltern and Eppan have small houses which they use during the warm summer months or at weekends. In winter, the area becomes the small ski resort of Mendola/Ruffrè.
